No. Families partner with us to build or renovate their home and then purchase it with a 0% interest, affordable mortgage. Homeowners also contribute “sweat equity” hours by working on their own home or helping others, ensuring they are active partners in the process — not passive recipients.
Sweat equity is the hands-on work that future Fuller homeowners invest in building or renovating their home. This can include construction work, volunteering at other projects, or supporting Fuller Center events. Sweat equity builds pride, ownership, and community.
Families are selected based on three criteria:
Need for housing (unsafe, overcrowded, or unaffordable living conditions).
Ability to pay an affordable mortgage.
Willingness to partner with The Fuller Center through sweat equity hours and community involvement.
The Fuller Center was founded by Millard Fuller, who also founded Habitat. The mission is the same: to provide decent, affordable housing for families in need. The Fuller Center uses a “partnership housing” model that emphasizes local control, volunteer engagement, and 0% interest mortgages.
Every dollar stays local, directly supporting housing projects in Meade County. Donations are combined with volunteer labor and homeowner sweat equity to maximize impact.
Absolutely! We welcome volunteers of all skill levels. There are plenty of tasks on a build site, and we also need help with events, fundraising, and community outreach.
Yes! The Fuller Center for Housing of Meade County is a nonprofit organization. Donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
